Bluffing Tips

Whenever you are playing any form of poker, online or not, you should know that your opponents are out to make sure that they get you out of the game by any means necessary. This includes bluffing. In order to be competitive in the game, you should know a few things about bluffing. This knowledge will be the best thing that you ever learn while playing poker. The goal of a good bluff is to make the other players believe that you are playing either a much better hand than you actually are, or, if you wish to increase the pot, a worse hand than you actually are playing. One major thing that should be pointed out right off the bat is that you should not over do it when it comes to bluffing, no matter how good you are at doing it. The other players will notice what you are doing quickly, and it will cease to work to your advantage. Some of the basics to bluffing are outlined in this article, and we hope that they prove helpful.

Usually, the best time to bluff is when it’s down to only you and a couple other players. Doing it this way is much easier, because it’s always easier to fool a smaller group of people into believing what you want them to believe. Another thing is that if you notice that one or more of the other players tend to fold easily, take advantage of that with your bluffing, it will weed out the players who weren’t going to contribute much to the pot and make your group of opponents smaller.
Also, if earlier in the game, you acted as if you had a great hand, but then you didn’t draw what you needed, act as though you did, this will make the other players think twice about what they will do as it becomes their turn to proceed.

One of the best, and most often used, times to bluff is right after a great hand that the other players really took note of. If you use the same mannerisms, emotions, ECT with the next hand, the other players will be more likely to think that you have another winning hand and will either fold early or not play as aggressively as they normally would have played. ALWAYS wait until you have had time to evaluate the playing styles, tell, and other mannerisms of the people with whom you are playing before attempting to bluff any of them. This will make your bluffs much more effective and you will be able to tell when it’s a waste of time to try to bluff certain people or in certain situations with these people. The biggest advantage in bluffing is when you know how to “read” the people around you and study how they play their hands in different situations. Putting this knowledge, and the other tips mentioned, into use will help to make you a better poker player in the long run.
